Concord rests on the Kalamazoo River. It functions primarily as a commuter town to Jackson, about 10 miles to the east, but is also supported by a few local businesses and manufacturing. Many of the businesses have been family-owned for generations.
Concord was first settled by William Van Fossen in 1832 when he built the first house here. He named the area Van Fossenville, but he officially named it Concord when he applied for a post office. It was incorporated as a village in 1871.
