Horton is primarily a bedroom community for Jackson, but Lomar Machine & Tool is an anchor manufacturing plant in Horton. A small town located off Moscow Road, Horton shares a school district with neighboring Hanover. There's a quaint park (Horton Mill Pond County Park) that offers playground equipment, a picnic shelter, swimming and fishing.
The main business district, located on Moscow Road, has a gas station, ice cream stand, and hair salons. Main Street no longer has any commercial locations, but is home to the post office and three historical sites, the former Horton Methodist Episcopal Church, the old Wellman General Store and the Horton Historical Wagon Works building.
