CNB employees donate $700 to Refurbished Pets of Southern Michigan

APRIL 16, 2018 - Each quarter, County National Bank hosts a Jeans for Charity Day. Employees donate money toward a local charity and in return dress more casual while making an impact. This quarter, employees donated to Refurbished Pets of Southern Michigan (RPSM).

For over a decade, the organization has worked with pets and prisoners to affect others positively. Rather than being sent to a shelter, abandoned, surrendered and homeless animals enter into a ‘Companion Program.’ The program allows inmates to train the dogs, with the goal of both being able to re-enter society as productive members.

Joyce Repasy, 2nd Vice President – Loan Administration, suggested the organization and has close ties to the program. In 2015, she adopted Chance, who graduated and received his ‘Canine Good Citizen Certificate.’

“RPSM is a fabulous organization, as the program is such a success story on so many levels. Prison personnel have stated having the dogs inside and working with Refurbished Pets has made a positive impact on the prison environment, the inmates and the guards.”, said Joyce Repasy. She also added, “The inmate must meet special criteria to be a handler for the dog. There are two handlers per dog, working with the dog for a ten-week training period. Upon graduation, another group of dogs is brought in. It is an excellent program for all participants.”
