Harold White Sr. Awards Breakfast – Announces Awardees


The HRC is pleased to announce the winners of the Diversity, Inclusion and Volunteer awards for this year’s Harold White Sr. Awards Breakfast.

This years Diversity Award will be presented to Bright Walls Jackson. This award is given to an individual/organization that has done something to create a positive effect within a range of human differences. Bright Walls is a public art and mural festival founded and run by the Jackson Young Professionals. In its inaugural year, Bright Walls hosted 14 artists from around the world. Throughout the festival, Bright Walls showcased the artists’ talents alongside musicians, local artists and many other community organizations.


This years Inclusion Award will be presented to the Jackson Pride Center. This award is given to an individual/organization who has created opportunities and/or implemented change regarding involvement and empowerment, where the inherent worth and dignity of all people are recognized. The Pride Center is a community-based organization, focused on bettering and strengthening the LGBTQ community in and around Jackson. The center organizes community classes, community-building events, in-depth discussion groups, and has become a clearinghouse of information from medical and legal help, to navigating throughout Jackson with LGBTQ-friendly businesses.


This years Volunteer Award will be presented to Wanda (MamaTuTu) Beavers. This award is given to an individual or organizational team who volunteers their time and/or talents for charitable, educational, or other worthwhile activities without pay, in social agencies, charitable organizations, etc. The volunteer’s duties must have excelled beyond that of the average volunteering individual. Wanda has been a pillar in the Jackson Southside community for many years offering food, clothing, shelter or sometimes just a shoulder to lean on to others who may be in need. Every year she has hosted a community Easter egg hunt, back to school drive, and summer BBQs relying solely on the funding/donations of individual donors, herself, and God.


Tickets to this year’s event cost is $25 per person. Corporate table sponsorships are also available for $250 which will include an ad in the event program.
