Region 2 Area Agency on Aging Receives Grant from The Eaton Corporation

(Brooklyn, Michigan) – Region 2 Area Agency on Aging announces that they have received a grant from the Eaton Corporation in the amount of $6000.

The support will allow the Agency to continue to provide assistance to older adults and adults with disabilities in two specific service areas: Safe Haven and Assistive Technology.  These two programs have had significant funding cuts due to the pandemic but the need in the community remains high.  The funds will be split evenly between the programs and will help us offer these services to more people this year.

The Safe Haven program provides a community-based option for older adults seeking to leave an abusive or neglectful home situation. Participants who are referred to the program are provided with emergency temporary housing, support coordination and connection to ongoing supportive services.  Safe Haven is a safety net for older adults and adults with disabilities who are being neglected or mistreated physically, emotionally, and/or financially. Safe Haven has served 125 victims of elder abuse since 2017.

Assistive Technology (AT) helps maintain or improve the ability of people with disabilities and older adults to be full participants in everyday life and to live safely and independently. Anybody who has short- or long-term goals that they cannot meet due to a physical, sensory, or cognitive disability or issues due to aging is a candidate for AT.  We work with people to determine which techniques or devices best fit their needs, configure and install devices, and provide training and ongoing support to ensure the proper use of the recommended methods and equipment.

Region 2 Area Agency on Aging was established in 1974 and is a not-for-profit agency serving older adults and adults with disabilities in Jackson, Hillsdale and Lenawee Counties.  For additional information on these programs or any of the other available programs and services, please contact Region 2 Area Agency on Aging at (517) 592-1974 or at www.r2aaa.net.
