Recycling Jackson and Gerdau will partner to host an Earth Day Recycling Drive on Tuesday, April 22 at 1401 N. Brown Street from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. Community members will be able to recycle materials including glass, Styrofoam, batteries, electronics (televisions, cell phones, laptops, computers, keyboards, mice), cardboard, office paper, clean plastic food/beverage containers, small appliances, and latex paint, for free.
“We are excited to partner with Recycling Jackson to open another drop-off day at their site and raise awareness about the importance of recycling,” said Lindsey Erb, Gerdau’s ESG and Communications Manager. “Jackson has limited recycling services, with some waste service companies eliminating their recycling programs in Jackson and others accepting limited items. Recycling Jackson accepts the largest array of materials and we’re lucky to have them in our community.”
Recycling Jackson is a volunteer-led non-profit organization that offers recycling drives the first Saturday of every month from 9:00 am to 1:00pm. They accept a large range of recyclable materials as long as they are sorted and clean. Volunteers assist in making sure materials are properly sorted to ensure they get recycled and do not end up in landfills.
“We’re excited to partner with Gerdau and appreciate their sponsorship to make this event free for community members,” said Steve Noble, President of Recycling Jackson. “I hope it attracts the community to support the circular economy by dropping off their recyclable materials this Earth Day.”
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), on average, less than 25% of the electronics produced are recycled or reused in the U.S. This drive is a great opportunity to give your old cell phones and other electronics, among other accepted material, a new life. Recycling Jackson’s electronics vendor follows strict data security protocols to ensure the personal information is properly erased.
