Region 2 Area Agency on Aging Begins Construction on New Building

(Brooklyn, Michigan) After a historic decision made by its Board of Directors, Region 2 Area Agency on Aging is beginning construction on a new office building at the former location of Dr. Cole’s medical practice in Brooklyn. The building project is led by Progressive AE architectural and engineering firm.

Region 2 Area Agency on Aging’s new building will be a 24,210 square foot, 2-Story building with a basement. It will be a wood framed building and structure with some steel support, all brick veneer with aluminum storefront window systems. The entire building will meet accessibility requirements and incorporate Universal Design strategies where feasible to better serve the community and a generator will be added for full operation in power outages. Included in the space will be 1,600+ square foot community room, many offices and meeting spaces with privacy and security in mind for a growing staff and increasing needs. Accessible and comfortable furniture and features will be included, and a bright, welcoming, secure facility for staff and community members. The building will be designed with long term flexibility in mind; a place where the community can go to for services and programming for many years.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on May 20, 2022, and construction is expected to be completed by April 2023.

Region 2 Area Agency on Aging was established in 1974 and is a not-for-profit agency serving older adults and adults with disabilities in Jackson, Hillsdale and Lenawee Counties.  For more information about this press release or any of the programs and services offered, please contact Region 2 Area Agency on Aging at (517) 592-1974 or visit www.r2aaa.net.
