Jackson Publishing Company is seeking an operations manager to oversee, coordinate, and assist in the creation of and advertising sales for Jackson Magazine, Senior Preferences, and other special publications. Working closely with publisher, sales staff, editors, and vendors, the position is responsible for ensuring that sales goals are met, publications are produced on time and at a high quality, and that four yearly events are successful. The person filling this position will be highly organized, able to handle concurrent publications and tasks, and be able to lead team members towards a common goal.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate, and support sales staff to ensure sales goals are met for each publication
  • Coordinate the monthly publication of Jackson Magazine including assigning writers, scheduling photoshoots and production timelines, arranging printing, and managing mailing lists
  • Coordinate the bi-monthly publication of Senior Preferences including data formatting, scheduling production timelines, arranging printing, and planning delivery quantities, timelines, and routes
  • Assist in proofing of all publications
  • Attend trade shows and networking events to promote publications
  • Attend committee meetings for yearly award issues
  • Assist in developing yearly editorial calendars
  • Work with vendors to purchase necessary goods
  • Organize and manage four corporate events per year
  • Build community relationships on behalf of the company
  • Work with publisher for opportunities to advance company

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven history of effective communication and management
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to manage and keep deadlines
  • Detail oriented nature
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of profitability and sales projections
  • Outgoing and personable nature

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven experience working with Salesforce
  • Sales experience
  • Knowledge of the Jackson business community
  • Experience in the senior services market (housing, health care, services, etc.)
  • Past experience in purchasing or procurement
  • An interest in continual learning to advance your skills and knowledge

Celebrating its 30th year in print, Jackson Magazine is a B2B magazine published monthly focusing on the businesses and leaders in Jackson County. Senior Preferences is a resource guide published six times a year, covering all of southern lower Michigan, that provides seniors and adult children with access to businesses providing a variety of services. Throughout our 30 year history, Jackson Publishing Company has also published titles such as Giving Guide, Working in Jackson, Explore the Pour, and several other publications around the state.
